The Huggies Little Walkers offer the absorbency of a nappy with the freedom of a pant. Their stretchy sides offer freedom of movement, and the fun Winnie the Pooh designs are sure to appeal to toddlers.
When first presented with his Huggies Little Walker pants, Samuel started pointing and shouting ‘Cat! Cat!’ I wondered what he meant, but soon realised it was the picture of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh that had caused all the excitement. So, already keen, he was more than willing to step into them and have a run about in the back garden.
Myself and my partner Nicky have just started to talk to Samuel about letting us know when he needs to go ‘poo, poo’ or ‘wee, wee’, so these pants looked to be the next logical step to make going to the loo easier for him and us.
What we love
My initial impression of Huggies Little Walkers was good. The pants felt soft and comfortable, and because they’re designed like proper pants, not nappies, Samuel loved pulling them up and down while shouting ‘Pants!’ (Samuel does a lot of shouting).
Watching him run around, it was obvious that the Little Walkers were made with toddlers in mind. The elastic on the legs and waist felt secure enough to prevent little accidents, but wasn’t scratchy like some nappy elastic can be, and had plenty of ‘give’ to allow his busy legs room to roam.
We’ve been using them for a week, and Samuel seems to be slowly getting the idea that he can go to the toilet like a grown up.
What to watch out for
There were a few things that would make me think twice before buying these pants regularly. These are standard nappies, made with all the standard non-biodegradable materials and chemicals, so not one for eco-conscious parents.
I was also disappointed with the price. It seemed a bit steep compared our regular ‘eco’ brand.
With regards to their practicality, which up until now had been great, after having a bath one night Samuel was excitedly waiting for his pants to be put on but his skin was still a bit clammy from the bath so the pants kept sticking and were a nightmare to pull up. Obviously with normal nappies this isn’t a problem. You just lay him down, pull the sides over and stick the tabs down.
Finally, one morning Samuel had a poo so I lay him down to change him but to my horror the pants had slipped down (or Samuel had pulled them down) with the inevitable messy consequences – definitely one for fellow parents to watch out for.
Who are the Huggies Little Walkers best for?
Parents with Winnie the Pooh loving toddlers on the verge of potty training.
MadeForMums verdict
Huggies Little Walkers could be a useful stepping-stone to potty training before your toddler is ready for proper pants. However, they’re expensive and aren’t eco-friendly as they’re made with non-biodegradable materials. You also need to watch out for your toddler pulling them down when they shouldn’t.
