The Support Carrier allows for your baby to be in two positions – on your front facing you (called “Facing-in cozy time”) and on your back when they are older (called “Backpack exploring”). Your baby needs to be in the front inward facing position until they can hold their head up/sit up without any help.
The carrier is suitable for use from when your baby is 3.6kg (8lb) up to 18.2kg (40lb).
What we love
The Infantino Support Carrier has a soft and comfortable outer fabric and decorative inner lining.
Your baby is positioned in a natural sitting position, which seems optimally comfy for your child. The shoulder straps of the Infantino Support Carrier have excellent padding, which means less stress and strain on your shoulders.
The front carrying position allows you to keep baby facing you, which is vital in the early days and weeks. Your baby can be close and comforted while you get on with tasks! The head support is adjustable to keep your baby where they need to be (which is close enough for you to kiss). My son Sam loved being in this position and settled down very quickly for a doze after being secured in the carrier.
The Infantino Support Carrier also allows you to carry your child in the back carrying position once they are old enough. This allows you to continue to use your carrier beyond the early months.
The fabric of the Infantino Support Carrier is machine washable (drip dry) – almost a necessity with baby! You can also spot clean the carrier for those little messes that often happen.
What to watch out for
When used on your front, the Infantino Support Carrier only allows you to have your baby in the parent facing position. Once your baby reaches a certain age they may prefer to face out and see the world – with this carrier, this requires you to wear baby in the back carrying position.
The back carrying position for the Infantino Support Carrier is difficult to negotiate without assistance. The instruction manual suggests that you’ll need someone to support your baby while you secure him or her in the carrier on your back. This isn’t that practical if you’re on the go, alone.
In the front carrying position, while I found the abdominal support excellent, the waist strap, when tightened appropriately, was rather uncomfortable as it isn’t padded.
In the front carrying position, the upper-back adjustment strap is awkward to reach when fitting your baby into the carrier. I struggled to reach it on the first few times and had to strain quite a bit to get it clasped and unclasped.
There are quite a few adjustment straps on the Infantino Support Carrier, which allows you to get the right feeling of support and comfort for your baby, however these straps hang down so you’re trailing quite a bit once everything is adjusted. There are loops to secure the excess straps but I found it hard to roll the excess strap and secure it in the loop.
Who is the Infantino Support Carrier best for?
Parents who like to keep their baby close while getting out and about.
The Infantino Support Carrier is a smart-looking, comfortable carrier. It’s ideal for keeping your baby close and allowing you to continue to accomplish daily tasks. The ability to carry your baby on your back when they’re old enough gives this carrier longevity, is a good feature for babies eager to see the world and is something not all carriers can do. However you do need assistance to use it in this position.
