In a nutshell
A great value, lightweight highchair with plenty of functionality. It’s easy to tidy away thanks to a one-hand fold, but can be tricky to clean

The Joie Mimzy Snacker is a practical yet stylish highchair from reliable children’s brand Joie. This mid-budget highchair is designed to grow with your child and offer flexibility with adjustable harness height and 3 recline options.
Parents will love how compact it is and how easy it is to store freestanding. One of the most attractive features is the fact it boasts a single-hand flash fold, perfect for busy new mums and dads who are short on space and want to tidy it away.
It sits at the cheaper end of the highchair range, but it still packs quite a few features for its price tag.
Tested by
Fay is a journalist living in High Wycombe and tested the chair with her 8-month-old son Chester.
What were your first impressions?
My first thought when I took it out of the box was that it already looked part built, which came as a relief to me. There were only three things in the box, which again was a welcome surprise. I was instantly taken with the simple, stylish design and it was really light to lift out.
How easy is it to build the Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair?
Assembling the Joie Mimzy Snacker couldn’t have been easier. I managed to get it from box to table in less than twenty minutes thanks to the simple and clear picture instructions. Even without looking at the instructions it’s straight forward as it comes in just three parts. The pieces click in easily and you don’t have to faff about putting the straps or cover on as it comes ready-to-go.
How easy is it to use the Mimzy Snacker with your baby?
As well as being very easy to put together, this highchair is simple to use on a daily basis. The tray slides on and off by pressing two grips and the height and seat recline can be adjusted with ease too.
The picture instructions clearly show how to use the various features, including how to take off the cover and move the straps for different heights – both of which can be done within minutes.
It is really easy to put my son in the seat because the T-bar is attached to the tray rather than the seat bottom itself, so there is nothing in the way.
Are the straps easy to use?
The high chair features a 5-point harness but you don’t have to fiddle around fitting different bits together. To secure your child you simply click the side straps into the centre one.
It is easy to do correctly because the centre strap features the Joie logo, so you know which way round it goes. The strap adjusters are user friendly, and the straps are soft touch which adds to the comfort of the seat for my son.
The only downside is that they are a little tricky to clean as food can get ingrained in them easily and it can take some scrubbing to remove it. Some John Lewis shoppers have also remarked that the straps were too long for their children.
How comfortable does your baby look when inside?
The Mimzy Snacker seat features a padded cover that provides your baby with support and comfort. One of the things I like about it is the fact the T-bar is on the tray and not on the seat, which can be uncomfortable.
The seat can be reclined into three positions. However, the most upright is still a little relaxed for my liking, something echoed by our MFM home testers.
How adjustable is the Mimzy Snacker?
The Mimzy offers great adjustability for its price. There are three height adjustments for the harness straps and three adjustments that can be made to the recline position - so that after feeding, your baby or toddler can lie back and sleep off the tasty meal.
How easy is it to keep clean?
The frame itself is very easy to wipe down, however the seat cover is a little trickier. Food often got encrusted on it unless you cleaned it straight away, which isn't always possible with a baby. You can remove it completely and put it in the washing machine but again you don't always have time for that.
The straps quickly became quite dirty and took a lot of scrubbing to get food debris off. The tray however cleans really well and the smooth design means there is nowhere for food to get stuck.
How much space does the highchair take up when unfolded?
The highchair is pretty compact and fits in nicely around the kitchen table. When the tray isn't on, it can tuck in and I think the fact it is so lightweight – an impressive 6.25kg – makes it feel even smaller.
How do you fold the Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair?
One of the highlights of this highchair is how easy it is to fold. You simply pull a cord located on the seat and the whole thing folds down on itself. We have enough room to keep it out but when I am cleaning the floor, for example, I fold it up to create more space. I don't think you could easily catch your fingers folding it because it is just one movement pulling up the cord.
There is no risk of your child accessing it because they sit on the cord. Also, it takes a strong tug to get it to fold, which no baby would be able to do.
How easy is it to store?
The highchair is very easy to store because it becomes very compact once folded, measuring 29.5cm x w 50.2cm x h 91cm. It also stands up on its own, so you don't have to worry about it toppling over. And the great thing is that you can attach the tray to the back so it makes it even more compact when folded.
Can you move it easily around the house?
The lightness of the Mimzy Snacker means it can easily be moved around the house. Once folded you can take it from room to room. Like most highchairs it is slightly awkward to carry due to its shape but it's certainly not an issue.
What do you think of the style and design?
The Mimzy Snacker is a great piece of design work thanks to the one-handed fold system. The highchair is lightweight and doesn’t take over the kitchen when up. It would fit in with most kitchens due to its modern and clean look. The lightness of the highchair could lead you to think it is not sturdy but that is in fact down to the aluminium frame.
Which are the best Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair's best features?
I really like how easy it is to fold. A lot of baby products promise you can do it with one hand but don’t deliver. The Mimzy Snacker is true to its word. It's made from lightweight aluminium which works really well because it is so light.
Does it have a storage basket?
Yes, but I am not convinced about the need or practicality of the storage basket, which you can attach to the bottom. I find that food often gets caught in there, making the toys I keep in there dirty.
In fact, our MFM home tester Stacey thought the basket was pointless. “I couldn’t work out anything I would want to store under the chair. It was also a slight safety concern as the first thing my toddler did was try to climb into it.”
Does the Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair have any additional uses?
Once your child is ready you can use the chair in table mode. You remove the tray and adjust the height so that your child can sit at the table with you.
What is the age suitability for the highchair?
The Mimzy Snacker promises to grow with your child and can be used from 6 months to 15kg (approximately 3 years). The design would definitely suit an older child as well as a younger one.
It's great knowing you can get years of use but I can't imagine it being clean enough to use that long – particularly the straps.
How does it compare with other highchairs you’ve used?
I previously used a highchair which was around £50 more expensive but didn't have any additional features to the Mimzy Snacker. In fact, my son found the other highchair less comfortable because the T-bar was attached to the seat, so it always felt like he was wedged in.
The Mimzy is also less bulky and lighter and takes up less room - but isn't so easy to keep clean.
What’s in the box?
- Tray
- Attachable basket
- Main body of chair
- Legs
- Instruction manual
Who would the Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair be most useful for?
The Mimzy Snacker would be ideal for someone who doesn't want the most budget highchair on the market but doesn't want to spend a fortune.
It is great if you are short on space and want something you can fold away after each meal.
Is the Joie Mimzy Snacker highchair worth the money?
The highchair is without a doubt worth the pricetag – it’s easy to use, stylish and comfortable for your baby. I loved the fact it didn’t take up much room and can be folded away if needed. It wouldn’t look out of place next to pricier highchairs and boasts features you would expect from a higher price tag – such as the three-position seat recline and the five height adjustments that enable you to use it in table chair mode.
It is a very popular option with shoppers, with a significant sample of parent reviewers at John Lewis giving it 4.6 stars out of 5.
