Pros

  • The junior bed guards are a thoughtful addition for added peace of mind

Cons

  • Your baby may seem a bit lost with so much space when she's very small

It may not be the most original of designs but with a tasteful country-esque style and reassuring sturdiness, you can’t go wrong with the Lemberk Arabella Deluxe. There is also a coordinating range of furniture including a wardrobe and chest of draws.

The Lemberk family have produced quality nursery furniture in the Czech Republic for over a decade. They passionately believe in producing furniture of consistent high quality and design and robust construction that is built to last.

With the option of free assembly on delivery there is no need to worry about putting the Arabella Deluxe together. However, if you do choose to do it yourself, this timeless, solid beech cot comes with clear instructions so you can’t go wrong. It only takes a short time to assemble with the included allen keys and, once together, is an incredibly sturdy, well-made cot.

What we love

Once assembled, the Arabella is very robust, without being too heavy for mums to move easily. Combined with the strong slatted bed base, the traditional fully sprung mattress provides excellent support and durability for both newborns and toddlers. The mattress is breathable and has a fully washable, water resistant zip-off cover, while the cot conforms to British safety standards and is built to last. It will grow with your nursery and child, transforming easily into a junior bed that will last your child until she is about five years old.

Conveniently, the bed remains the same size as the cot so all you need to do is remove the cot sides and replace with the attachable side guards to keep little ones safe in the early bed days. This also means you don’t need to worry about buying a second mattress for the cotbed. Overall, the Arabella does offer very good value for money and despite not having the longevity of other very whizzy cotbeds, it does everything you need it to very well. The traditional styling won’t go out of fashion and you can enjoy years of use.

What to watch out for

With fixed sides you may find getting your baby in and out a little more trouble and for such a high quality cot, it is a shame not to see teething protectors on the cot rails.
It also only offers two mattress height options but the sides are not so high that it causes any real problem. Further, the cot ends are solid which means you can’t see you baby from every angle.

The 140cmx70cm mattress is not included and you’ll need to spend £80 to purchase it from Kerry O’brien, the UK Lemberk distributor. The fact that the bed remains the same size means your baby can seem quite lost in such a big cot when she is tiny so it’s well worth investing in a cot divider. The cot rails and bedside guards will also eat into your storage while one or the other is in use.
