Basket
The Little Green Sheep Moses basket is not flashy and different in looks. It is very simple clean design that was created with use of premium, luxurious organic materials and fabric.
These are not visible features but offer conscious parents peace of mind that they baby sleeps in chemical-free environment. For me it was a small incentive after my baby girl decided she is not a fan of Moses baskets.
As a fresh mum my main concern is if my baby sleeps at all, and if that happens to be in a clean and safe Moses basket that is fantastic but unfortunately Bridget wasn’t that attracted to delicate scent of organic maize nor luxurious Egyptian cotton like dressing.
And this dressing is the main problem with The Little Green Sheep Moses basket. It is a very nice and luxurious in touch organic cotton however its main failure is that it cools down quickly. It would be perfect fabric for a bedding used on the hottest night of the year but not baby’s sleeping environment on a daily basis.
I had to add additional layers of minky blankets that once warmed up do not cool down in a second. They were not organic so all the effect of chemical free sleep was ruined in a way.
My baby was 6lbs when she was born and didn’t feel snuggled enough. I also had to add rolled blankets on the sides so baby doesn’t touch cold walls and feels warmer. If we were using cot we could insert her favourite PurFlo Breathable Nest inside for some cosiness but the basket is too small for that.
It is not suitable for co-sleeping but good enough to have it close to your bed. In order to pick the baby up from the basket you need to sit up or fully get up at least –depends on the height of your bed.
I have many times ended up with baby sleeping the rest of the night next to me rather the Moses basket as settling her up after the feed was a bit of a challenge, again basket felt cold after half an hour or more of breastfeeding.
We have not used the hood so maybe having that attached could help, but the additional cost for the hood was too much.
Stand
The basket comes with two types of stands: static and rocking – we have used static.
There was no instruction included so we had a bit of thinking what to do with the plastic part that goes on top of the base. Other than that there was no problem with assembling the basket.
It is easy to put together and portable – however I used it as a static night sleep next to bed solution.
The mattress
The mattress as the rest of the components is fully chemical-free. It does not come with a bed sheet nor mattress protector so to keep it fully organic manufacturer offers organic bedding set or mattress protector.
I decided on standard cotton bed sheet with no protector as mentioned before I used a lot of additional blankets to keep basket cosier.
Overall it seems to be a good quality and suitable firmness item.
Additional extras needed – bedding and mattress protector if needed.
Manufacturer offers fully organic extras:
- Option of the basket with the hood and mattress £129.95, with no hood £99.95
- Stands: static £24.95, rocking £39.95
- Bedding set inc. mattress protector: £39.95
- Mattress protector: £12.95
What’s in the box:
- Basket
- Mattress
- Stand
- Basket support that goes on the stand
This is an expensive solution but for a conscious parent might be the one, I am not that bothered by having everything organic however is good to know that baby sleeps in better environment.
For a few months of use the price might be a concern to some savvy parents, especially that the resale value will be extremely low – there are new Moses basket available for the price of the Little Green Sheep’s stand.
