Pros

  • Easy for your baby to hold due to non-slip material, easy to clean

Cons

  • Spills a bit even with the non-spill valve

The MAM Learn to Drink Cup in the 270ml size is the next step up from the first 190ml cup. It’s part of a two-phase learning concept, to help your baby move from sucking to drinking, and from bottle to cup.

MAM designers have worked with child psychologists to understand how babies progress. To gain new skills, they found a huge factor was ‘bridging behaviour’ – that means when your baby is learning new movement patterns, he must gradually approach the new goal until he’s able to do it himself. With the transition from bottle to cup and cup to ‘proper’ glass, this is what’s happening. Before your baby can drink from a glass, he has to practice holding, how to control the weight and how to control the liquid coming out of a tipped cup.

The MAM Learn to Drink Cup designs are based on a unique two-phase-learning concept. The cup comes in two sizes, 190ml or 270ml. The 190ml size is for babies from 6 months, and the next step on from this is the 270ml size, which is for babies from 8 months onwards.

Firstly, the 270ml size caters to your baby’s need to drink more. And because it’s a little bigger, it’s also a little heavier. The spout of the 270ml size cup is harder than the 190ml, too. This is ideal for phase two: the transition from cup to glass. The cup has a valve to help stop spills, and it’s easy to close.

What we love

I love the easy grip aspect of this cup - it’s made with a non-slippery material and as Zac can be all fingers and thumbs, it was a great feature to help him grips with this cup easily. The cup has no handles, but the grip and the cup’s narrowed shape meant this wasn’t an issue, either.

Cleaning is easy – the cup is dishwasher, microwave and steriliser safe.

Like the 190ml cup, the 270ml size is BPA-free.

There are three trendy designs, which are different from the three designs the smaller cup comes in.

What to watch out for

Despite the patented MAM valve to stop spills, I found it wasn’t 100% spill free (but I do find this a problem with nearly all ‘no-spill’ cups).

MAM Learn to Drink Cup isn’t the most budget option around, which could be a consideration if your baby is prone to losing anything that comes into his hands.

Who is MAM Learn to Drink Cup (270ml) best for?
