If you prefer a butter to an oil, you can't do much better than this one.
Like all the Mama Mio products, Tummy Rub butter is a pleasure to use. If you’re not keen on oils, this could be the one for you!
The Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter is great for soothing itchy skin, and smells delicious.
All Mama Mio products are free from colourant, parabens, petrolatum, phthalates, sodium laurel and laureth sulphate, synthetic fragrance and xenoestrogen. The Tummy Rub is also popular among celebs with famous fans including Natalia Vodianova, Mariska Hargitay, Rachel Weisz, Milla Jovovich and Kirsten Dunst (not pregnant, but still loving it!)
What we love
Because this is a butter (although an oil version is also available), it’s much easier and less messy to apply than other stretchmark oil. It has a cool feel and creamy texture that sinks in easily and also helps to soothe over-stretched skin. Many mums-to-be get itchy bumps due to the strain their skin takes, so this would be a great product to try for soothing troublesome skin.
The other advantage of a butter over an oil is that you don’t worry about staining your clothes with residue, and it’s also more pleasant to rub into your hands after applying than an oil is – more like a luxury handcream! There is a high oil content in the butter, which the manufacturers claim delivers plenty of essential fatty acids (omegas 3,6 and 9) to your skin. These are thought to help skin elasticity, thus preventing stretchmarks.
It has a luxurious feel and scent which make it a treat to use. All Mama Mio products are perfumed with the company’s ‘Gravida’ fragrance, a blend of pregnancy-safe essential oils. It’s a relaxing citrus-floral combination, which isn’t too strong for sensitive pregnancy noses, and I found it delicious. I used this butter in the morning before getting dressed, but preferred an oil overnight as it felt more intense. This combination has so far (at 35 weeks pregnant) prevented any new stretchmarks appearing. A relief, as I had some old ones so knew my skin could be prone to them. As it’s such a pleasure to use, I’m intending to use it for four months after the birth.
What to watch out for
You’re recommended to continue using the butter for four months after the birth to help your skin return to its normal tone and texture which could prove a little pricey as the product isn’t cheap. Depending on personal preference, you might feel an oil is more effective. The packaging isn’t quite so stylish, but it’s not unattractive either.
Who is Tummy Rub best for?
Mums-to-be feeling delicate and in need of a treat.
Seems to have done the trick at preventing stretchmarks, so comes highly recommended unless you have a preference for an oil.
