Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto is a lightweight buggy that can be converted into a pram-like set-up or a travel system. While it’s not cheap when compared to some other lightweights, it does have a quality feel.
The Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto is an umbrella-fold buggy that weighs a moderately light 8.4kg. The buggy is suitable from birth, but you can attach the matching Callisto carrycot to create a rear facing pram.
The Callisto carrycot was originally sold as an optional extra for £130, but now online Mamas & Papas is including it with the buggy at no extra cost. The carrycot sees your baby travel in a cosy, lie-flat position. It has a collapsible shell, a nifty feature that means it’s not so bulky to store.
Also included in the price are a raincover, removable bumper bar and shopping basket.
To create a travel system, you purchase the Mamas & Papas Cybex Aton car seat (£125) and Cybex Car Seat Adaptor (£22). We’ve review the Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto as a travel system, so head to the full review for more details.
Currently, the Berry and Lime colourways retail at £250, but the Stone option is £279.
What we love
Folding the Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto is easy and straightforward - just push up the back bar with your foot, hold down the button in the middle of the handlebar and fold. It’s easy to transport and store once folded, too, due to the clip that holds it closed and the side carrying handle.
It’s easy to recline the buggy with the one-handed recline toggle on the back of the seat.
Strapping your baby in is also easier than with many other buggies – the seat harness has a tightening device like you’d see on a car seat. The leg rest is adjustable, too.
I really like the Cybex Callisto’s (height adjustable) handlebar. I find a single handlebar makes it easier to push one-handed - I’m always needing one hand for something else! Obviously, the downside is you won’t be able to hang any shopping off the handlebars.
The ease with which the matching Callisto carrycot can be attached and removed is impressive, and can be done without even waking your sleeping baby. To switch between pram and buggy set-ups, you just slide of the buggy seat, then slide on the carrycot. The carrycot is also well padded and can be a travel bed for your newborn.
What to watch out for
The Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto has a lightly padded seat, but for a smaller baby you might prefer to add a more padded seat liner.
There’s no viewing window in the buggy hood, so you can’t keep an eye on your tot when the hood is up.
The Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto – like many other lightweight umbrella-fold buggies – has a small shopping basket.
The kick-down, kick-up brake is tricky to release when you’re wearing open-toe shoes.
Who is the Mamas & Papas Cybex Callisto lightweight buggy best for?
New parents who want one lightweight purchase to last from birth to the toddlerhood.
MadeForMums verdict
It’s not a budget lightweight umbrella-fold buggy, but its quality and useful features do justify the price tag. The inclusion of the carrycot now makes the cost even more reasonable and provides a good parent-facing option.
