The Mamas and Papas Lotty Ladybird Light and Sound Playmat and Gym is a luxuriously padded play mat. It is packed with activities and surprises.
The Mamas and Papas Lotty Ladybird Light and Sound Playmat and Gym comes with detachable gym arms that have little garden animals hanging off them, and a mirror hanging from the centre. The mat itself is very well padded, and each of the legs of the ladybird has a different activity: a rattle, crinkle, squeaker and mirror. The ladybird also has a musical button on her hat. There are LED lights that flash on and off, too.
What we love
It is a really attractive, colourful play mat. The mat itself is much thicker than many other mats on the market, and extremely comfortable.
All of the activities have been designed to target key development areas. There really are quite a lot of different toys packed onto the mat. The different activities in each ladybird leg weren’t really used until Biba could stay on her front. Once she discovered them they were great for encouraging tummy time! The mirror hanging from the centre kept Biba entertained for ages.
The gym arms are very simple to attach, and the garden animals that hang off them can be removed. This was a great idea, as my daughter became very attached to the snail and we could take it with us!
What to watch out for
The Mamas and Papas Lotty Ladybird Light and Sound Playmat and Gym is a very large mat and not very easy to store or to travel with. I ended up borrowing a travel play mat when we went on holiday.
It’s also very difficult to clean. You can only surface wash it. I found that because it was on the floor it would get very dusty. I regularly had to take it outside to shake it. It would have been more convenient and hygienic to put it in the washing machine. It would also be tough to clean if you child had been sick (luckily mine never was!). This has been commented on by many other mums online.
The musical button on the ladybird’s hat was difficult for Biba to use and we didn’t really play with it very much. Also, the LED lights that flash on and off can’t really be seen very well, especially in daylight.
