A really gorgeous addition to your nursery for the early months, the Mamas & Papas Millie and Boris moses basket and Natural stand provides comfort and versatility for your sleeping baby, but at a price.
Looking at a beautiful moses basket makes even the least maternal person broody. The Mamas & Papas moses basket offers a beautiful, neutral baby sleeping area with just a touch of embellishment. Well padded and designed, the moses basket is both spacious and comfy for your baby, but is much more cosy than putting her in a big cot, where little babies can sometimes feel lost.
My daughter Biba happily slept in hers for almost 7 months. Easy to move around from room to room, it’s very versatile – much more so than a heavy crib. I found myself using it downstairs in the day and at the end of our bed at night. We even took it away with us in the early months, when we were away from home – giving somewhere familiar for her to sleep even in strange surroundings.
The basket comes with a small cover. However, you may find like us that this is an unnecessary extra. We didn’t use it as we swaddled Biba until about 3 months and then she was straight into a sleeping bag. The cover is more to make the basket look pretty in the nursery before the baby arrives!
There’s a choice of static or rocking stand to buy with the moses basket. We chose a static stand, as I was concerned that if Biba got too used to being rocked to sleep, how would she fare when we transferred her into a cot. The static stand also folds down, making it portable and easy to take away. However, the Mamas and Papas rocking stand come flat packed and you need a screwdriver to construct it – just another thing to remember when packing to go away overnight.
What we love
The choice of fabrics and colours is fantastic, with 12 currently in the range. You can even have one of the fabrics personalised at an extra cost. This would make a really lovely gift from a grandparent for your new arrival. The attention to detail on the embroidery is beautiful, as are the cute detachable rattle toys. You can also buy an additional mattress, which means you can use the basket for a second child.
What to watch out for
This is quite an expensive purchase starting at £65 for a basic basket (no hood) and going up to £110 for the top of the range. When you compare this to the Mothercare top of the range which costs £70, there’s a significant difference, and so you’re paying for the trusted quality and kudos you know you’re getting with the Mamas & Papas brand
Also, we found the hood adjuster did not really work. It was hard to get the screw tight enough for the hood to stay up, so we often left our hood down.
Who is the Mamas & Papas Milllie and Boris moses basket and Natural stand best for?
Mums who want a beautiful, comfortable place for your new baby to sleep.
A gorgeous piece of baby gear for your bedroom or nursery, although not a cheap purchase. Very portable, it’s great for keeping your sleeping baby close to you in different rooms or for when you go away overnight.
