The basis of the Pramette is that it meets the needs of your newborn and then turns into a pushchair that grows with your child. The pram is certainly comfy and cosy, and easy for your baby to fall asleep in for hours at a time.
In pushchair mode it has several reclining positions, from lying down to upright, which is great for when your baby falls asleep on the go as you can easily adjust it without disturbing him.
What we love
The Pliko Pramette is easy to convert from a pram to a pushchair once you’ve done it a few times, although it does take a little bit of practice at first. It’s also very easy to collapse down for storage or carrying in the car, and would fit in even quite a small boot space.
Always good at innovation, Mamas & Papas has developed a ‘free movement harness’, which allows your baby to sit up and move a bit, but still be securely strapped into the pushchair. This is great for peace of mind.
Looks-wise it’s a fairly stylish pram. There are lots of colours to choose from, from simple dark greys to cute spots. As a pram it looks like a traditional pram, which is quite appealing, and makes a very comfortable looking pushchair with lots of padding.
The shopping basket in the bottom is a great size, and you can fit in quite a lot of groceries – very handy when out shopping on your own with baby. The drinks holder is a bonus too, especially when you’re out walking for hours. The raincover is simple to attach.
What to watch out for
Once your baby’s around 6 months the pram becomes a bit too small, and he’ll have to go into the pushchair, which only faces forwards – one of the biggest downsides of this system. When your baby is so small you will probably still want him to face you, even when sitting up a bit more, so this did become a bit of a problem. I solved this by temporarily using a different pram system.
The pram itself is on the heavy side, and it’s noticeable when trying to get it in and out of the car. However it is very easy to fold and unfold. The weight is probably due to the fact it’s a very sturdy, solid pram – the only exception being the handles, which feel quite flimsy for the weight of the pram.
Once you get used to the swivel wheels, it’s very easy to push around, although again its weight is a factor at times, as getting up hills and over bumps and kerbs can be hard work. I also found it’s virtually impossible to push with one hand, as it just swerves all over the place. So, no chatting on your mobile while walking!
Who is the Mamas & Papas Pliko Pramette best for?
Mums after a trusted, well-loved system that delivers in both quality and robustness.
If you’re looking for a sturdy, quietly stylish pram and pushchair, this is a great place to start. Comparatively good value for money, you need to remember it’s not a lightweight and only gives you a forward-facing option.
