The Mamas & Papas Pro Tec is a multi-award winning Group1 car seat, with more than a couple of neat design tricks up its sleeve.
You’d have to look hard to find a Group 1 car seat that’s as easy to fit as the Pro Tec. Uniquely, it’s securely fitted into your car at both the top (using webbing locks) and the base (using a seat belt tensioner). This gives the seat an extremely secure fit. The fixing is all done from the front of the seat, which is great for me as I am quite petite. Many other car seats are fitted by weaving the seatbelt through the back of the seat, not easy when you have short arms!
The seat belt tensioner is another great feature as it allows you to get a really tight fit without relying on your strength – again, great for me as, like many women, I have weak upper body strength. The four position recline allows you to adjust it whilst in use. This has been invaluable, especially when our daughter Biba falls asleep. It has extremely deep side wings which, as well as making sleeping more comfortable, gives additional side impact protection.
What we love
Another great feature of the Pro Yec is the way you adjust the shoulder straps. On many car seats you have to re-route the straps each time you need to adjust the size. On the Pro Tec there is a neat clip on the rear of the seat, which allows you to move the shoulder harness up and down (3 positions) without the need to re-route. This saves time and means that the safety of the seat is never compromised. It also has an easy to use One Pull harness adjuster.
What to watch out for
The covers are very difficult to remove, as we discovered last week, when Biba was very sick and it went everywhere. There was no choice but to remove the covers. It involved unthreading the straps and a lot of effort to pull the fabric off. Then, once off, we discovered that they are not machine washable! This meant I had to wash it in the bath with handwash and a lot of elbow grease! The seat itself has a lot of places to catch the sick, which is great until you try to clean it. I had to poke an ear bud into some of the smaller gaps and I am not sure I managed to remove all of it!
