Top of the range sleeping bag which is comfortable for baby and gives you peace of mind
The Merino Kids Go Go bag is a great 100% natural fibre sleeping bag for your baby. It’s not cheap but with its clever merino wool technology, you can use it all year round, making it more cost effective.
The Go Go bag was born in 2003 after Merino Kids founder, Amie Nilsson suffered too many sleepless nights, with her first baby suffering heat rash from synthetic sleeping bags. The Go Go bag is lined with 100% fine spun merino wool which feels very soft on the skin, draws moisture away from it, and helps regulate body temperature. Additionally it is low fire risk and is brilliant for travelling, with its unique vent for car seat straps, and comes with its own little travel bag. In 2007, the Go Go bag was awarded the prestigious International Forum Product Design Award in Germany.
My daughter Isla is half-Kiwi and we received her Go Go bag as a gift from NZ friends when she was born. It feels really premium and ours was a cute-candy stripe pink and white. I like the way it comes it its own little travel bag which makes it handy when going away.
What we love
The fact that the sleeping bag is made out of 100% natural fibres (the lining is 100% merino wool and outer layer 100% brushed cotton) rather than using a poly-cotton mix that can become quite sweaty for your baby.
Most importantly, the merino wool lining helps regulate your baby’s body temperature so you don’t have to worry about her overheating. It also means that you can use the bag all year round, rather than having to buy different tog rating bags for the different seasons – simply layer up with clothing inside the bag on colder nights. It is also suitable from birth to 2 years old, unlike many other bags on the market.
The bags are one shouldered and the other shoulder is double popper-fastening which is good as Isla has been known to escape from her other bag which has single popper-fastens over both shoulders.
It’s particularly great for long car journeys without disturbing her sleep as the bag has a special vent in it to put the car seat strap through.
What to watch out for
The Go Go bags need to go on the wool wash cycle with wool-specific detergent but apart from that, the only drawback is the price. At more than double the cost of most sleeping bags, this might put some people off, but you really are paying for quality, longevity of use and also peace of mind.
Who is the Merino Kids sleeping bag good for?
A mum for whom budget isn’t an issue, and who wants a premium sleeping bag for her baby.
It really is a great sleeping bag – ticks all the boxes of everything you could possibly want in one – but the price will definitely put some people off, even though it is trans-seasonal and suitable from newborn to 2 years.
