MFM's Christmas cake tasting - the results
MFM put Christmas cakes from four popular supermarkets to the test so to find the best, the fruitiest, the booziest and the most stylish
Tesco Iced Rich Fruit Cake with Courvoisier vs Cognac (1kg), £10
Tesco's cake impressed with its slylish design and was fluffy and light. Some tasters thought it was bit bland and boring, though, so it's a good choice if rich Christmas cake is usually too much on your tastebuds.
Score: 3.3/5
Lidl Dundee Cake (907g), £4.49
MFM tasters thought Lidl’s cake was not only beautiful and organic looking, but fruity, dainty, lovely and soft too. The only criticism for this one was that it might not feed the whole family (probably because everyone wanted more than one slice!).
Score: 3.4/5
**WINNER** Asda Santa Cake, £10
Our winner! This glitzy cake was noted for being attractive, gorgeous tasting and very cute. The 3D cake got a big thumbs up from our tasters with our final verdict being “mmmm…moreish!” Sounds ideal!
Score: 4.1/5
Aldi Luxury All Over Iced Christmas Cake (1.2kg), £6.99
Our tasters felt that this cake ticked all the right boxes when it came to looking the part. You get plenty of cake for your money and it's in a traditional style. Some tasters thought there was too much icing but if you like the sweet stuff, this is a perfect choice.
Score: 3.5/5
