So how much might this cost? The Pick and Mix amazingly comes in at a little under £60. When you purchase the Pick and Mix Pushchair you buy the frame and wrap (the seat cover/hood) separately, and literally pick and mix whatever takes your fancy. While the frame is a basic black, umbrella fold, there are five different coloured wraps to choose from.
What we love
The Mothercare Pick and Mix Pushchair has a really decent size shopping basket. What I really liked about the frame was the black wheels. Quite often the cheaper, buggy-type pushchairs have white wheels. These look great in the shop, but not so great once you have taken your buggy out for a few trips. The dirt sticks to the rubber and makes the pushchair look old way before its time.
The clever bit of this design is the choice of wraps. You simply select the colour you like and attach it to the frame (I’ve got Jelly Fizz). It’s a simple process, which takes about 5 minutes. It comes with a matching hood, which you just clip onto the frame as well. The colours are bright and vibrant, just what you need for a holiday or to brighten you mood in the British rain!
Mothercare suggests that you buy more than one cover to mix and match the hood to the seat. In reality I don’t think many people would want to spend another £20, just to have a different colour hood. It would, however, be an inexpensive way to update your pushchair for a second child or if your first cover gets dirty or tired looking.
The hood is a great bonus and helps to make the Pick and Mix pushchair excellent value – many other similar-priced strollers don’t include a hood. And yet, it’s such an essential element, especially if you are planning to use it a lot in the summer or take it abroad.
And then there’s the style. Many mums online have commented that people stop them to ask where they got their Pick and Mix Pushchair from.
What to watch out for
After regular use, some mums have found that one of the wheels can start to stick. In my experience this is a simple problem that can be solved by spraying some furniture polish directly on to the wheel nut.
Some mums have also commented that the handles are quite high and at an awkward angle. This hasn’t been a problem for me, but I would recommend trying it out in the shop before you buy, to make sure it feels comfortable for your height.
Also, although we’re not supposed to (but do anyway) if you hook shopping bags over the handles, they do tend to slip down and end up near the floor. Watch out for this – or instead make full use of the basket underneath.
Who is the Mothercare Pick and Mix Pushchair best for?
Budget-conscious mums who don’t want to sacrifice style for affordability.
A really fun pushchair that certainly ticks all the boxes when it comes to price, weight and compactness. The wraps are colourful and the black frame makes it look more expensive than it actually is!
