Pros

  • Good quality nappy, does everything it is supposed to.

Cons

  • Not the cutest designs around.

Available in cute designs, Mothercare swim nappies make trips to beach or pool an option before your baby's potty trained. They are fully washable, with a waterproof layer that really does work.

I went to Mothercare to buy swim pants because we were going on holiday and I thought they would be useful. I chose a boy’s design called ‘Sea Fun’, because I didn’t like the frills on the girls’ ones.

The swim pants are made of fully washable waterproof layers with elasticated legs and supersoft terry towelling lining. The nappy part is built-in to catch mishaps without becoming soggy and heavy.

What we love

These swim pants are definitely waterproof! I know this because they don’t come with instructions for use, and being a bit dim I wasn’t quite sure how they are supposed to work. So the first time I used them I put them on over the top of a disposable nappy. It wasn’t until I asked another mum that I found out that you don’t use baby swim pants with a nappy! But the disposable stayed completely dry. The pants also look as if they would do the job of containing any poo, although Evie hasn’t put this to the test.

What to watch out for

It would be helpful to first time mums like myself if the pants came with instructions! I would also like it if there was a swimming equivalent of the one-size nappy, to avoid having to buy a bigger size every six months. This is particularly relevant to people like me as Evie’s not that keen on swimming when we’re at home – she just seems to think that the swimming pool is a big cold bath without even any cups to play with. So she’s grown out of the first one and I’ll have to buy a new one for next holiday, even though it’s had hardly any wear.

Who are the Mothercare swim pants best for?

Mums who enjoy taking their babies swimming regularly.

MadeForMums verdict

A good product that is fit for purpose, but doesn’t offer anything over and above anything else that’s available.
