Pros

  • Easy to change from adult to child seat, arms stop children touching the toilet

Cons

  • Pricey, must be fitted, arms may not fit in smaller cloakrooms

If you've ever tried to juggled a toilet training child who’s desperate for the loo while fitting a toilet seat, you'll love the ease of the NOBI toilet seat.

The NOBI toilet seat has two main functions. Initially, it has been designed for anyone who needs a bit of extra support when on the loo, which is why it has integral arms. But the second clever addition is the child seat, which works just like an extra loo seat, but with a smaller hole.

The seat itself must be fitted to the toilet in the same way you fit any toilet seat. NOBI have kindly included the tool to undo and do up the fittings, so you won’t have to search out any tools, but do allow some time for fitting. Once fitted, though, the NOBI toilet seat works like a dream.

The NOBI toilet seat is available through quite a few different companies (particularly mobility specialists because it's good for the elderly!), but I got mine online from co-operative Xest.

What we love

The NOBI toilet seat with child seat and lid is quickly converted from adult to child seat in a second. Arron is now 3, so able to take himself to the toilet, but when he was smaller and I was running to the loo with him, just being able to flick down the seat for him would’ve been really useful. With the NOBI toilet seat, Arron can pull down the little seat himself.

The NOBI toilet seat is very comfortable and Arron says, “I won’t fall down the hole.” (We had an unfortunate experience with a cheap padded child seat!)

It’s smooth lines mean it’s really easy to clean, and can be used as a loo seat long after your child has grown big enough for an adult seat.

The arms, initially designed for the elderly or infirm, are a great boon to small children, who are otherwise apt to grab hold of the seat and toilet – not the most hygienic method!

What to watch out for

The NOBI toilet seat replaces your loo seat, so must be fitted properly, and the arms may make the seat too wide if your toilet is in a small area or fitted close to the wall. The overall height of the seat, including the wing-like arms, is 17cm. It's 62cm wide - the actual seat width is 48cm. The length of inside the toilet seat (front to back) is almost 30cm, and with the child toilet seat, this length is 17.5cm.

At £129 it’s a pretty big outlay, and it’s not portable between toilets or able to be taken with you if you’re going visiting. It can be used as a normal loo seat once your child has grown out of the child seat, then adapted once more if you have more children, so it does have longevity in its favour.

MadeForMums verdict

The NOBI toilet seat with child seat and lid is a quality, well-made product that should last for years. It’s easy to clean and quick to convert from adult to child mode. But £129 it may seem like a lot to pay for a toilet seat.
