Pampers Bed Mats are a disposable answer to protecting against the odd night-time accident, especially when you're away from home.
There can’t be a parent in the land who isn’t familiar with the Pampers brand. So synonymous was it with nappies that the midwives at my local hospital actually called nappies ‘Pampers’ rather than ‘nappies’, in the way people use the word ‘Hoover’ instead of ‘vacuum’.
The Pampers Bed Mats is a disposable mattress protector, designed to be placed underneath a sheet to protect against night-time accidents.
They come in packs of seven for just under a £5, and fold flat, so are handy enough to take away on a week’s holiday
What we love
I was surprised at just how soft the Pampers Bed Mats are. I was expecting something rather rough and that would rustle, but they’re quite the opposite. They are soft and quiet, making for discreet mattress protection. The soft top layer, like brushed cotton, makes them comfortable to lie on if you use them over the bottom sheet.
The underside has a cute teddy design, which Arron, 3, found quite appealing, but I suspect older children would consider that rather babyish. Between this and the top layer is an absorbent layer.
The cleverest aspect would be the wings (though this isn’t an idea that’s unique to Pampers). The wings tuck in under the mattress, helping to keep the mat in place. They’re also a good size (90cm x 80cm), which is great if your child tends to move about a lot at night.
The Pampers Bed Mats are designed to go under a sheet, but I found that the wings kept it in place on top of the sheet. Personally, if I was away at a friend’s or in a hotel, I would want the mat on top, so that we didn’t get the sheets wet, and stripping the bed in the middle of the night could be avoided! In fact, I’d rather do that at home too, if it meant I didn’t have to face a midnight wrestle with the sheets.
What to watch out for
The Pampers Bed Mats are nearly £5 for a pack of seven. Fine for taking away, or if your child only has the very odd accident, but they would be pricey if you got through a pack every week.
Once wet, the mat needs changing, as the top layer stays wet unless it’s only a small amount of liquid.
Finally, the teddy bear design is fine for very little ones, but as these Pampers Bed Mats would be great for sleepovers, it would be nice to see a more grown-up design for slightly older children.
Who are Pampers Bed Mats best for?
Children who need a little extra protection when sleeping away from home.
MadeForMums verdict
Pampers Bed Mats are an effective product that offer good mattress protection and are perfect for nights away, or for children that are almost dry at night. However, they could become costly if you needed to change them every night.
