Pros

  • Stylish design, easy to dispose of contents, sturdy design

Cons

  • Bulkier than other models

The donut potty from Hoppop is stylish and modern. It does the job, and won’t look out of place in a contemporary home while you’re in the throws of potty training.

A potty is, well, just a potty. Not exactly glamorous, you might think. It’s there to serve a function. Those were my thoughts until my 2-year-old son Sam and I were confronted with the Hoppop donut potty. Yes it’s still there to serve a not very exciting function, but this particular brand looks so sleek and modern, it wouldn’t look out of place in the most stylish of bathrooms. In fact, the company that produces the potty claims it has made potties sexy!

There are three different potty styles on offer from Hoppop at the moment – the donut, the arco and the torro. As all are equally smart, I wasn’t surprised to find that Hoppop was a company based in style-conscious France until it was bought by an English company last year.

The fresh and funky design of the Hoppop donut, together with the simple two-tone colour scheme, means the it could be a non-specific piece of expensive furniture instead of somewhere to teach your toddler how to use the toilet.

At £17.99, the Hoppop donut is not prohibitively expensive, but it does cost more than your average, bog-standard (no pun intended!) offerings.

What we love

The design of the Hoppop donut is second to none, and doesn’t immediately scream “we are potty training” when you walk into the room.

The wide base of the Hoppop donut potty made it very comfortable for Sam to sit on.

The middle section lifts out incredibly easily, making it simple and quick to dispose of the contents in the toilet. This easy-to-remove section also means making a mess while trying to dispose of the contents is a rare occurrence. This user-friendliness helps make potty training less of a chore for us parents!

The donut’s funky design means even the most style-conscious of parents would be happy to display it in the most luxurious of bathrooms.

What to watch out for

The two-part design, while practical, did encourage Sam to play with the Hoppop donut more than other potties we’ve tried. Being a typical inquisitive boy, at times when I just wanted him to sit on it he was very tempted to take the potty apart and put it back together (not to mention put the inner part on his head)!

The price is also on the higher side of the market and the wider base, while sturdy, meant it was bulkier than other potties out there.

Who is the Hoppop donut potty best for?

Style-conscious mums after an easy-to-clean potty that can blend into the bathroom.

MadeForMums verdict

The Hoppop donut is a chic and modern-looking potty that manages to make the most unsanitary of items look stylish and fresh. In fact, take a quick glance at the Hoppop donut and it could be mistaken for a smart plant pot or bowl! However, the Hoppop donut isn’t a dirt cheap option, with some mums possibly not wanting to pay this amount for such a functional item.
