Out 'n' About Nipper 360 double buggy review

The Nipper has a really good-sized hood, that comes down nice and low, good for protecting delicate skin for the sun or wind. The raincover is great, too, and covers the whole pushchair. It doesn’t have a frame so it folds down really small, and fits in one of the back pockets.

In between the two seats is a divider – a brilliant idea, as it gives tiny babies their own, separate space to all asleep in, and stops older children nudging and winding each other up too much. The seats recline fully flat, too, so it really is suitable for newborns, although even with the seat liners it doesn’t really feel padded enough for tiny babies. I’d definitely buy the cosy toes to match – they’re fantastic, really nicely padded and cosy, and well worth the extra money. You can get head huggers too, to make it even more secure for babies: I can see why these aren’t included, as some people will be buying this for older children, or for just one baby and a toddler.

It folds down really easily, although you have to remember to fasten the locks on each side to stop it folding down again once it’s upright. This is a safety feature, and is a really good idea to make it safe for off-roading, but it can make the unfolding seem a bit fiddly. Another safety feature is the fact that the seats don’t sit fully upright – this stops toddlers tipping forwards if you’re going down a steep hill. This can seem a bit strange for toddlers who are used to being bolt upright in other buggies.

So what’s wrong with it? A major downside is the lack of a shopping basket. When you’re out and about with two kids, whether they’re twins or a baby and a toddler, you always have lots of kit with you: nappies, drinks, snacks, wipes, toys, jackets… And the two pockets on the back of the seats, while very useful, are nowhere near big enough to carry all you need. One is filled with the raincover, leaving you one for everything else. If you hang a bag on the handles, it makes the pushchair feel very unsteady, so you need a shopping basket. You can buy one to go with it, but it costs extra, and it’s annoying to have to go to the trouble of ordering it. Apparently it doesn’t have a basket so that it can be used on rocky terrain or going up mountains, without anything dragging on the ground below the seats. This is a fair point, but I’d say more parents will be using it day to day for trips to the shops than for going up big hills!

If you’re into the outdoors and planning to use this for extreme walks, it will stand you in really good stead: the only downside is that it doesn’t have a handbrake, so you have to dig your heels in really hard when you’re going downhill.

Another thing that’s less than perfect is the size of it when it’s folded, but this is the case with pretty much all double buggies, and the Nipper makes up for this as the wheels are so easy to pop on and off. It’s also very light which makes lifting it in and out of the car an easy task. One more downside is its width – although again, this will be the case with any double, and if you want something that fits through doors easily, you’d better buy a tandem instead.

What we love

It's really light and easy to steer, and has plenty of room in it for two toddlers. The price is really reasonable for what you get, and it looks stylish and sporty enough for dads to be happy to push it! It’s also comfy and safe enough for newborn twins.

What to watch out for

It doesn’t come with a shopping basket, and the compartments on the bag of the seats aren’t really big enough to transport all the kit that goes with two babies. It sometimes feels a bit precarious when going up kerbs with the seats lying flat because of the single front wheel. The other big problem is that the tyres can puncture as they’re air-filled: get around this by using tyre slime.

This is brilliant if you like to walk a lot, as it’s great on all types of ground and has well-thought out features to make it ideal for off-roading. It’s a great double even if you’re more of a city-type, though, as it’s light and manoeuvrable, and comfy and roomy.
