Recaro Young Sport review

There’s an integrated harness for Group 1 use (from 9 months to 4 years) that’s automatically repositioned as you adjust the backrest height and it also has a recline function.

As your child gets bigger, you remove the harness and use the car seatbelt, as with other Group 2 and 3 seats.

The backrest and side wings give protection to your child whatever their age if you have an accident and the seat is made from high quality, ergonomic foam for extra comfort.

What we love

The Young Sport isn’t cheap but it does have a lot going for it. It’s extremely sturdy and well made, making me feel confident that it would protect my little one, Martha, in a crash, which is the most important thing you can ask of a car seat.

She seems to be really comfortable in it too, and when I asked her how she felt about it, she replied: “I like my seat!”

Looks-wise the seat is undeniably very stylish and this is definitely a good choice for anyone who wants something that doesn’t look babyish.

The more ‘mature’ design also has the advantage of ensuring your child won’t refuse to sit in it when she gets older! Other mums on the internet all seem to agree that the seat really does grow with your child so you won’t need to buy another.

The fabric is all removable and washable, which is essential as car seats inevitably get food/milk/vomit etc on them.

Also, the instructions for use are stuck onto the inside of the seat, which is a really good idea as it means you can’t lose them and they’re always to hand if you need to check anything.

What to watch out for

Personally, I found it quite difficult to fasten the seat tightly enough in position in my car, although reviews from other mums on the internet didn’t mention this as a problem area. I think it would be really great if Recaro had videos on its website showing you how to install the Young Sport correctly, especially as so many mums buy things online these days.

I also found the seat rather heavy to carry around and move between cars and, in all honesty, it doesn’t recline very much. The crotch pad is very large and kept getting in the way of the buckles when I was doing up the harness, so in the end I just took it off.

The Recaro Young Sport is a great all-round seat for any parent who wants to get value for money in the long run.

An excellent investment to see your child through many years in your car. But top of the range products don’t come cheap, so you need to be prepared to shell out.
