Cons

  • Doesn’t fold, no wheels to move around, no recline function

Red Kite is known for creating engaging and practical products to help parents with baby’s journey into childhood – all with an emphasis on value for money.

The Feed Me Combi 4-in-1 high chair – joint Gold winner in our 2021 MadeForMums Awards – is one of a number of ‘multi-use’ highchairs currently on the market, along with the Maxi Cosi Minla (£179), Joie Multiply 6in1 (£130) and Tutti Bambini Nova Evolutionary Highchair (£169), among others. It offers 4 different seating options (a traditional high chair, low seat, booster seat and stool) suitable for use from 6 months, right up to the age of 12 years.

Coming in at £90, it’s definitely one of the more affordable models available, giving you an impressive amount of bang for your buck. Plus, the chic, minimalist styling makes it look a lot more expensive than it actually is.

Tested by

Dianne is a journalist from Cheshire who tested the highchair with her 13-month-old baby Freddie, and the stool option with her 5-year-old son, George.

What’s your verdict on the style of the Feed Me Combi?

I was really impressed with the look and design of this highchair – it felt very premium and stylish and, rather handily for me, it totally matched a new mat in our dining area! Mind you, with its neutral pebble colour seat and pale wooden chair legs, I think it would look pretty good in most home interiors – an opinion shared by parent reviewers on Asda, who praised its chic looks.

As the seat’s big selling point is that it can adapt to 4 different styles of use, with children up to 12 years of age, I like how the design is classic enough to appeal to older kids and parents alike, and won’t date over the years.

How easy is it to assemble?

There are full instructions with the highchair, but I have to admit it did take me a couple of hours to get it all put together correctly as there seemed to be a lot of elements to get right. Another of our MFM home testers for the 2021 Awards did manage to set it up in just 30 minutes, though.

When it came to setting up the Feed Me Combi in other modes, at first I couldn’t figure out how to attach the booster seat to a chair, even with the picture instruction. I had to work out myself that you needed to unthread the harness leads first, to get them through the slots on the booster base and then rethread onto the plastic clip – I didn’t feel this was clear from the instructions.

Having said that, it was very easy to transform into a stool – you simply click off the seat base and add in two plastic inserts to fill the spaces it leaves.

What age range is the Feed Me Combi suitable for?

The Feed Me Combi has got all bases covered on this front – it can be used as a highchair from 6 months when baby starts weaning, up to the age of 36 months. It can be easily changed to a booster seat when the time is right for your baby, and then the option of a lower position seat. Finally, it can be used as a stool for children up to approximately 12 years of age.

This age range is the same as both the Evomove Nomi and Tutti Bambini Nova Evolutionary, however at around half the price, the Red Kite Feed Me Combi is a much more affordable option.

How adjustable is the Feed Me Combi highchair?

As the Feed Me Combi is suitable from 6 months, when baby is able to sit unaided, it’s a fixed seat with no recline options, unlike some suitable-from-birth models, including the Chicco Polly Magic (£139).

The height of the chair isn’t adjustable in the highchair mode – unless you count the lower chair option, where you swap the highchair legs for the lower chair legs.

How comfortable does your baby look when inside?

I was really impressed with the padding on the chair, which looked nice and squishy, and Freddie certainly looked and sounded happy in the seat during feeding.

There’s a 5-point safety harness, which will help keep your baby in a comfortable position too. I found it really easy to adjust the sliders around the waist and shoulders for a recommended snug fit, and had no problem getting Freddie in and out.

One of our MFM Awards home testers, Kate, did point out that the footrest doesn’t move and was a little too low down for her 1-year-old to reach, which meant they didn’t get the leg support and comfort some other highchairs offer.

What is the tray like on the Feed Me Combi?

Fantastic! It’s large and has an easy clip on and off mechanism and can be attached in 3 different positions to adjust to the size and comfort of baby. Many of the 5-star reviews on Amazon also mention how easy the tray is to get on and off.

The tray also comes with a flexi rubber tray insert, which you can simply whip it off with all the mess on and stick straight in the washing up bowl or dishwasher – something I found a godsend. I think this is one of the best features of the highchair, particularly for parents attempting baby-led weaning.

There’s an anti-slip cup holder on the insert, to keep your baby’s drink in one place – although my baby was particularly taken with this circle, which was a handy distraction technique to keep him from getting bored during feeding times.

How easy is the Feed Me Combi to clean?

Again, a big selling point for this highchair is just how easy to clean the whole thing is. As mentioned above, the flexi rubber tray just slips on and off and can be easily washed in the sink or dishwasher. The main white tray is also really easy to wipe clean with a cloth or can be placed in the sink for a wash, as it clicks on and off so easily.

The padded seat itself is not heavily stitched so there aren’t lots of crevices for food to get stuck in. It also quite easily slips off the plastic seat shell for a more thorough clean, or can be swiftly wiped down in situ with a damp cloth and mild detergent – it’s not recommended to submerge the seat in water.

Does it take up a lot of space?

The Feed Me Combi highchair doesn’t fold, so once it’s assembled this is the size of chair you are dealing with. Assembled dimensions in highchair mode are H97xW61xD65cm, so make sure you factor this in when considering your purchase. On the upside, it’s such an attractive seat that, for us, it became a feature of the dining room, rather than something you’d want to tidy away.

How portable is the Feed Me Combi?

There are no wheels on this highchair, so once assembled you have to lift up the Feed Me Combi to move around. The highchair weighs 9kg (significantly lighter than the Nova Evolutionary at 15kg, but double the 4.6kg Evomove Nomi). It felt very light to me and I didn’t have any issues carrying it around. The seat top clips off very easily, which would further reduce the weight of the chair if you were struggling to move from room to room.

Once fully constructed as a highchair you’d struggle to fit it in the car, but you can easily remove the seat shell to use as an on-the-go booster seat. It comes with harnesses and instructions on how to fix safely to a solid chair to use in the booster seat mode.

What’s in the box?

  • Seat unit
  • Stool top
  • Tray and flexi rubber insert
  • 4 x high legs
  • 4 x low legs
  • 2 x safety straps for booster seat
  • Frame and footrest
  • Full instruction booklet

What is your favourite feature of the Feed Me Combi?

Its versatility. The potential to use this in 4 different ways gives this highchair a real edge. When we switched it to the stool option, my 5-year-old boy loved sitting on it at the breakfast bar, so I can see this highchair having a long use in our household.

And, as I might have already mentioned, we were totally sold on the removable flexi tray – it’s such a simple but effective idea and saves so much time and effort with cleaning in the early, messy days of weaning.

Is the Feed Me Combi worth the money?

Considering the stylish design, the removable flexi tray, and the 4 different options for use with children up to 12 years, I think the Feed Me Combi offers unbeatable value in this category. It’s half the price of many of its competitors.

How does it compare to similar highchairs?
