Silentnight have been in the mattress business for 70 years and are a trusted household name. With this kids’ mattress, they have used their knowledge and expertise to ramp up their eco-conscious impact by using recycled plastic bottles to create a mattress that is fully recyclable at the end of its life. To date, Silentnight have prevented over 105 million plastic bottles floating on our oceans. A mattress with recyclable elements is a must for modern households as we all work towards limiting our impact on the environment with more considerate purchases, and this model shows being green doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Silentnight take children’s sleep seriously. The various layers of the Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress, £225, have been carefully developed keeping in mind research backed evidence that a good night’s sleep positively impacts a child’s mood, memory, physical growth and behaviour. Designed to support your child’s growing body as they sleep, it’s also breathable to keep kids as comfy as possible at night.
Tested by
Janet, along with her 9-year-old daughter Jasmine and 6-year-old daughter Roselyn, tested the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress for several weeks, mostly during overnight sleep but also daytime activities.
First impressions
I was immediately impressed by the quality of the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress. It's great to know that it uses recycled bottles yet still feels extremely soft and smooth. I could see that it was good quality and had no concerns about it lasting a good duration (even if my kids are a little rambunctious). The cloud design is a nice touch and very pleasing to the eye, as is the ‘premium-looking’ trim. The mattress is thick, and the springs don't poke through when I press down on it, so first impressions were good.
Is the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress suitable to use straight away?
Yes. As expected, no assembly was required, and I was happy to notice no strong or overwhelming odour.
What age is the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress suitable for?
The mattress is suitable from when your child starts sleeping in their own single bed – for my children this was around 4 years old – right through to early teen years.
I would recommend this mattress for children age 4+ who are somewhat sound sleepers. It’s worth noting that Silentnight state this mattress is not suitable to use on a top bunk, due to the depth.
How does the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress compare to other mattresses you’ve used for your children?
Unfortunately, my oldest daughter, Jasmine, didn’t take well to this mattress. She could feel the bumps from the embroidered cloud design and started to request to sleep on the sofa!
Truth be told, Jasmine was also sensitive to the feel of her last mattress. There were initially no issues but after about a year she said she could feel the springs – I could also feel them and personally hate that sensation so could empathise. For her old mattress I bought a very thick topper and after that she had no issues – so I don’t think this is a real reflection on the Silentnight mattress.
How comfy is the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress for your child?
Although my eldest wasn’t keen, we then swapped mattresses and gave the Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory to my youngest, Roselyn. She’s been happy sleeping on it saying it was "comfortable" and that she "slept great". I should add, that my youngest can sleep on anything and anywhere – lucky girl!
Just like adults, my kids clearly have their mattress preferences and the oldest is more particular. I’m in between – a mattress would need to be noticeably uncomfortable for me to dislike it. When I have personally tried the Silentnight mattress, I found it really pleasant and would happily sleep on it.
Numerous 5-star reviews on Argos rave about the comfort, with many reviewers saying it is the “comfiest mattress ever” and has actually helped their children sleep better.
How firm is the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress?
I would say that it’s on the softer side of medium firmness. It snaps back pretty much instantly when you remove your hand and provides soft yet firm resistance to pressure.
What features did you like most about the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress?
The mattress boasts EcoComfort Fibres, which Silentnight claim help to reduce moisture build-up and help regulate body temperature, and certainly neither of my kids experienced overheating during the night.
It also has an open coil spring system – to help healthily align the spine and provide full body support – and a soft knit cover. These features are all noticeable from looking at and lying on the mattress – it’s clearly a well-made product. The only thing my oldest didn’t like was the feel of the cloud imprint on the mattress.
How robust and durable does the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress feel?
In terms of robustness, my kids have done plenty of ‘trampolining’ and I feel confident that the mattress will stand the test of time.
How easy is to keep clean?
The Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress – like many others – is not easy to clean, especially any liquid spills. I would highly recommend a good quality mattress protector, like some of the ones listed here.

Now you’ve tested it, what would you have wanted to know before purchasing the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress?
I think it would have been useful to know before purchase that the cloud design has some raised elements that not all sleepers would enjoy. Particularly, if a very smooth surface is your child's requirement – then this mattress may not be ideal. It would also be good if some sort of protector was included or offered, especially for a mattress designed for kids.
Is the Silentnight Kids Premium Comfort Eco Memory Mattress worth the money?
Personally I feel the price point of £229.99 is very reasonable – I have learnt the hard way that it's worth spending a little extra to get the right mattress, as one of my children is quite particular about what she sleeps on. I really like the eco-friendly advantages this mattress offers without a noticeable hike in price compared to similar, less conscious mattresses. More companies should make it a priority to use fibres made 100% from recycled bottles.
