What we love
The contemporary design of this gate means it won’t look as though you’re imprisoning your child - something I was really keen to avoid! Also, because it’s made from furniture grade hardwood, the Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate will complement your interior, rather than stick out like a sore thumb.
The Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate fits all standard doorways measuring 76cm to 82cm and comes with optional mounting brackets for use at the top of the stairs. My stairs are quite steep, so this is where I’m using mine. If you have a larger opening to gate off, there’s a matching 10cm wood extension available to buy for RRP £7.99. With one extension, the gate can fit a width of 92cm. The gate can accommodate two extensions, and so fit a width of up to 102cm.
The Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate is pressure mounted, so there’s no need to drill holes in your walls or doorframes. This also means you can move it around the home easily and you won’t need to redecorate when the gate is no longer needed.
The safety gate comes fully assembled and all you need to do is slide the tension bolts into place and tighten with the wrench provided. The instructions are simple to follow, so this was easy and quick to do.
The instructions also explain that when you unpack the gate, it doesn’t look square (there is also a sticker on the gate itself). This is because it is manufactured at a pre-set angle, so that when it is installed correctly, it will maintain the correct amount of tension to keep it securely in place, which I found really reassuring.
To open the Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate all you need to do is slide the lock open and lift slightly – this can easily be done with one hand (ideal for busy parents!). The gate has a two-way swing for opening and closing and it’s spacious enough to walk through without having to turn sideways. The other thing I love is that if opened fully (i.e. enough to walk through) it will automatically shut and lock behind you, so there’s no need to slam it shut.
What to look out for
At £39.99, the Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate is more expensive than other wooden gates on the market, but for the quality of the gate, I think it’s worth the extra expense.
The gate is only recommended for use from birth to 2 years, which is probably when a determined child will be able to figure our how to open the gate themselves or climb over it! However, so far my son hasn’t managed to escape!
Who is the Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate best for?
Parents after a user-friendly safety solution that won’t ruin the interior décor.
The Summer Deluxe Wood Pressure Gate is one of the most stylish safety gates on the market. You’ll probably buy a few to use around the house, so it’s not a budget option, but it is really safe and sturdy. It’s perfect for keeping your little one away from potential dangers until they figure out how to open it themselves.
