  • The splash guard can hinder independent use of the potty

Summer Infant is a well-established company who have been dedicated to creating innovative baby and toddler products since 1984 with the goal of ‘Delivering the best for you and your baby.’

The My Size Potty has been created to replicate the look and feel of an adult toilet to ensure a little one’s transition to the real thing is comfortable and confident.

Having won several awards for their products across various categories, including potty training products, the brand has high hopes with this toddler toilet.

The handle on the My Size Potty features a realistic flush and giggle sounds to reward and encourage little ones, as well as a built in wipes compartment to promote good hygiene habits, removable bowl and splash guard for boys.

Do you have to put the Summer Infant My Size Potty together?

Yes, you do, but it is very easy to assemble, with only the flush sound unit and cistern needing to be screwed into place.

This takes a matter of minutes.

First impressions?

I have always been wary of all singing (literally) all dancing potties. I find something off putting and distracting (in some cases terrifying for my little ones) about garish, unrealistic looking and often grinning forms of miniature toilets trying to encourage children to wee/poo in them, dismissing them as gimmicky.

Yet I found the My Size Potty is different, it’s simple and realistic design make it appealing to both children and adults, I personally like how good it looks in the bathroom alongside the family toilet, creating a great environment to start potty training.

What does your little one think of it?

My little boy absolutely loves it, and even his sisters think its great, nicknaming it ‘Vectors Tiny Toilet’ (if you’ve seen Despicable Me you will be familiar with the reference!) and he could not wait to use it, no sooner had I put it down that his bum was on the seat!

Before using the My Size Potty my son was just using a bog standard (pardon the pun) potty, that his sisters had used, he liked to take it from room to room when he needed it (although I encouraged him to use it in the bathroom), and often when he sneaked off to use it on his own, would try to empty it himself into the big toilet, eek!

With the My Size he happily sits in the bathroom to use it, and has not tried to move it about (it’s a bit too big for him to do that anyway!), but he still likes to empty it, under strict supervision mind you!

Is it easy to clean?

Yes, the removable bowl makes it as easy to clean as any normal potty.

Tell us about the Summer Infant My Size Potty flush

The flush is definitely the feature my son (and his sisters!) loves the most. It really amuses him, he smiles and giggles so much and would happily flush it over and over again.

When pressed down the flush emits a short realistic sound followed by a child giggling, which thankfully is not really irritating and grows on you the more it is pressed. And it will be pressed, A LOT, possibly, sometimes when you are in the shower or on the toilet yourself!

Tell us more about the Summer Infant My Size Potty Splash Guard

The Splash Guard is a great idea for little boys, but I felt it made independent use hard, as it comes up quite high and makes it too hard for little ones to sit on the seat without help.

We tried using the guard for the first few uses, but Finley did not like it, so I took it off.

It is however, very easy to attach and remove, and just slides into place under the front of the toilet seat.

Does the Summer Infant My Size Potty help with potty training?

Yes, I think it does, as little ones are encouraged to go back onto the potty, as you would a normal loo.

Since using the My Size Potty, Finley has become a pro, but this is only without the use of the Splash Guard that comes with the potty.

I have found that since using the My Size Potty he will tell me he needs to go to the toilet, a lot more often, and will do a wee or poo every time, this has resulted in me using fewer pull ups. He has even woken up in the night a couple of times and asked to go to the loo, which has never happened before! He is also a lot more confident and will also point out to siblings using the big toilet, when they should flush!

Finley likes the idea of using the big toilet, but is still quite hesitant as it is something he can’t quite do on his own as he says ‘it’s too high’ so the My Size Potty is the perfect solution until he is ready.

What age is the Summer Infant My Size Potty best for?

It would be great for younger children just starting out with potty training and who need assistence on and off the seat, until they are used to it.

Saying that, the My Size Potty is suitable from 18 months and I could see it being used by a 3-year-old.

Finley, who is 25 months old and quite a sturdy little thing, sits on this potty very comfortably (still with room to grow) and would happily sit on it reading without any encouragement.

I also love that the hollow cistern can be used as storage for little ones favourite reading materials, and even spare nappies and pants too!

What about the wipes dispenser?

The lid comes off easily when needed and also houses a small compartment to keep wipes in. This is another nifty feature Finley likes, as he will get the wipes out himself to give me, and he will then wipe down the toilet seat (something he has taken upon himself to do without instruction!).

Is the My Size Potty value for money?

For £34.99, I do think it is good value for money, especially if your little one has younger siblings who will benefit from it too when they potty train.

Alternatively it may even be used as a pretend toilet in a Wendy house when they have finished potty training (that is what Finley’s sisters have in mind when he’s done with it, anyway!)

MadeForMums verdict:

Overall this is a fantastic little product that will help make potty training and the transition to the ‘big toilet’ easy and fun for children and parents alike.
