A second plastic tray that clips on top of the wooden tray is an optional extra. It’s a good feature as it means you can properly disinfect the feeding tray, something you’re unable to do on the majority of wooden highchairs. Practically this is a must, but the plastic see through tray provided is quite unsightly.
The manufacturers include a DVD for assistance in constructing the chair. This is literally a step-by-step guide to constructing and converting the chair. It is very well made and easy to follow.
What we love
The look and quality of the Svan highchair speaks for itself. It’s a very stylish piece of furniture. Its fluid lines mean it sits very well in any kitchen. It’s quite a small highchair, so doesn’t dominate the space like some of the larger plastic highchairs can.
I found the adjustable tray very useful as it can be pushed right up. This meant that there was limited space for Biba to drop food down. This saved on washing – a big bonus as far as I am concerned!
The fact that it can then convert to a child’s chair and an adult chairs means it is a really sensible option.
What to watch out for
Although the highchair has multiple adjustments, they all have to be made using the Allen key. This is quite impractical and it means you have to remember where you have put the key!
The chair has a lot of screw heads showing, which allows food to gather. This makes cleaning a real chore, as each screw has to be removed. The chair cover is fabric, which means liquid and food stick.
The seat is quite small, which was fine for my 2-year -old daughter. But my nephew of the same age was squashed.
The highchair doesn’t come with a harness, though this is an optional extra. The tray fits very snugly, so no harness is fine with a baby. But my daughter could happily stand up on the seat and found the lack of harness very exciting. I, as you can imagine, did not! I would definitely recommend purchasing this.
Who is the Svan highchair best for?
Mums after wooden highchair that’s versatile enough to go beyond babyhood.
The Svan highchair is very unusual in design and has some good features. It’s an attractive option if you specifically want a wooden highchair. Being able to adjust the Svan from highchair, to child’s chair to adult seat gives it longevity past the baby years. However, the size of the chair could be an issue – it’s great for a baby, but larger toddlers mightn’t find the fit as comfy.
