Pros

  • Really soft; fleecy layer stays dry

Cons

  • Only covers 'target' area of bed

The Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress Protector Pad from BabyKind is one of the softest fleecy protectors around and yet it is still totally waterproof.

Consisting of a layer of soft, cosy fleece, a layer of absorbent cotton and a layer of soft waterproof fabric, the Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress protector Pad combines comfort and dryness. The three layers mean that for smaller spills, the top layer stays dry, so you don’t have to take the sheet away for small spills, although obviously it needs washing and drying for big leaks.

What we love

The Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress Protector Pad is just so soft and cosy! It is lovely for baby to lie on, and small enough to take out and about if you’re visiting a friend or staying somewhere overnight. Despite it’s thick, cosy appearance, it’s easy to wash and can be tumble dried.

When I first took the Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress Protector Pad out of the package, I had to go and check that I’d been sent the right thing. It seemed so soft and cosy I couldn’t quite believe that it could be waterproof. But I’ve tried it, and it certainly is. Measuring approximately 65cm x 100cm, the Swaddlebees Stay dry Mattress Protector Pad is not a complete mattress protector, but is handy to pop underneath a small child in bed, especially if you’re away from home, or for an afternoon nap.

The back layer is not slippery, so the Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress Protector Pad doesn’t move around too much. If you want to ensure it stays in place you can put it under a fitted sheet though of course then you lose the cosy factor! Under a fitted a sheet, it does a decent job and it makes a useful extra layer, so that you don’t need to strip a whole bed if accidents do happen – excellent for mums who like their sleep! It’s also small enough to be used for in other situations such as breastfeeding, in car seats and so on.

What to watch out for

If you’re after a mattress for long-term protection, this is not the one for you, but for added protection at home or on holiday, it’s a great choice. Though bear in mind that it may be a little warm if you’re holidaying somewhere in the sun. Although is doesn’t slip around too much, for a wriggly child like mine, it’s not really suitable as a long-term solution, and I would still need another layer – such as a fitted waterproof sheet – underneath. It is also not ideal as protection if your little one is sick and likely to vomit.

Who is the Swaddlebees Stay Dry Mattress protector Pad best for?

Mums looking for an extra layer of protection for a potty training toddler or an older child on holiday or staying overnight at friends.
