The Tiny Love Gymini Super Deluxe Lights & Music is an ‘advanced’ play mat and activity gym for babies aged 0 to 10 months. TinyLove were the first company to make these types of activity gyms and this is one of their best selling products. It provides your baby with a lively, multi-sensory play experience – stimulating and developing their sight, touch, hearing and motor skills.
It consists of a mat illustrated with colourful pictures of jungle animals, textured shapes and a music and light area. The music lasts for about ten minutes and there is also a large mirror to encourage your little one to lift their neck. Connected to the mat are two (removable) arches with hanging toy animals which squeak, rattle and scrunch – they encourage your little one to reach, roll and stretch.
What we love
The variety of sights and sensations that this play mat offers can certainly keep your little one entertained for a long time. All the activities and toys have been designed to develop different levels of skill throughout the first ten months of your little one’s life.
I saw my tots Lucy and Peter take plenty of enjoyment from the various different parts of the mat as they got older – particularly understanding the cause and effect of the things they pressed and the noises that followed. While Lucy found the hanging toys quite unnerving initially, she was soon completely entranced by them. Peter, meanwhile, who was a very physical baby, always loved bashing away at them!
You can attach other TinyLove loops and toys to the holes in the arches, so I also added chimes and a mobile. The mat is powered with 2 AA batteries – which are needed to operate the lights and classical music. It folds up easily and comes in a useful storage bag which keeps it flat – I used to take mine away with me frequently. It’s fully washable, once you remove the battery pack and the arches and the animals can be sponged down. This is vital if your baby possets like mine both did! My mat still looks in perfect condition even after two little ones have used it and I have kept it in the storage bag. TinyLove also provide some useful instructions about how to use the mat for different activities.
What to watch out for
The mat can seem very ‘busy’ for a tiny baby – Lucy preferred it with fewer toys in the early days. The music can also drive you a little barmy after a while! At £49.99, it’s slightly more expensive than other play mats.
