The Tippitoes EZE pushchair is a value-for-money buggy that’s suitable from birth and more robust than its rivals.
Tippitoes, by some standards, is a fairly small company, and although it's been around since the 1960s, it's only recently increased its product range, so the EZE pushchair is only one of three in its buggy range. The EZE is also the most expensive (£79.99), presumably because it's the only one that's suitable from birth in the Tippitoes collection.
The Tippitoes EZE pushchair has a multi-position backrest and calf support with a 5-point safety harness. It reclines completely so that your baby can have a snooze when out and about. It has lockable swivel wheels, and linked rear brakes – which are more reliable than some others I’ve tested. The ergonomic handles come with comfortable sponge handgrips, but these aren’t height adjustable, so be wary if you and your partner are very different in height.
The EZE folds fairly easily using a simple umbrella fold mechanism with a locking catch, which means it's not too complicated, unlike some other models I have trialled. It also comes with an integral carry handle, which is needed as the EZE certainly doesn’t feel light, despite being 7.5kg.
What we love
Firstly, there’s a machine washable foot muff and raincover included in the price. The foot muff in particular really does make the Tippitoes EZE value for money. So many others on the market require you to buy accessories separately, thus bumping up the price.
The bumper bar is removable, which means that when folded the EZE is fairly compact. Unlike other strollers, the seating area is a good size for ample toddlers such as my 18-month-old Jack!
There’s a lockable catch when the EZE is folded, so it doesn’t spring apart when you pick it up or take it out of the boot. It’s more robust than the average stroller, and didn’t feel like it was going to 'shake apart' when Jack and I took the dog for walks in the park.
What to watch out for
Although the wheels are lockable to make the EZE easier to push on bumpy ground, I can’t get over the difference in handling between a more robust (and expensive) pram such as the Bugaboo and many strollers I have tested. Even though the EZE is better built than many of its rivals, the wheels are still all over the place when the terrain gets a bit rough. Because the wheels are made of hard plastic, the ride was a very bumpy one for my little boy Jack, too.
The EZE feels heavy, so it's not really suitable for taking on holiday, say, by plane. It's also hard work lugging it in and out of the boot of a car.
Finally because the EZE needs two hands to fold and unfold it's difficult with an energetic toddler in tow.
Who is the Tippitoes EZE pushchair best for?
Budget-conscious mums after a well-built stroller they can use from birth.
MadeForMums verdict
The Tippitoes EZE pushchair is a value-for-money, no-nonsense sturdy stroller. It comes in a limited - but stylish – choice of colours, with the added bonus of a foot muff included in the price tag. However, it’s not as light as you’d think and the handle height isn’t adjustable.
