Inside the box is a dome shaped baby unit with power lead and a compact parent unit with docking station that both charges the unit and enhances the received sound.
This new monitor is said to be all about cutting-edge, digital sound – this comes in the form DECT technology for crystal clear sound and guaranteed privacy.
Set up is easy, as with many baby monitors you just plug in and away you go. The baby unit features a nightlight that will either phase through the colours of the rainbow or just one. Also in the baby unit is a temperature display and a timing feature to keep a track of those late night feeds.
The parent unit controls just about every thing. From here you can talk back to your baby, switch on the nightlight, alter sound sensitivity and volume, activate the vibrate alert, watch the lights change as your baby makes a noise, start the timer and check the temperature in the nursery.
What we love
The TOMY Digital Plus Monitor TD 350 has great features. Freya, 3 months, calmed instantly when watching the colours change on the baby unit near her cot. The light is just bright enough to see so you can feed or check on your baby without disturbing them. The ability to switch on the nightlight in the nursery from the parent unit was useful too - when going to Freya in a very dark house, it prevented me from crashing about and waking her further.
Both the baby and parent units are extremely solid and well made, and it looks like the TOMY Digital Plus Monitor TD 350 may survive as long as its predecessor, no matter how many times I drop the parent unit (and believe me it tends to be a few, it always seems to get knocked off whatever I put it down on).
The sound quality is really clear and there’s no background hiss at all like you can sometimes get with cheaper models.
What to watch out for
Because the parent unit is so compact, the belt clip is a bit short and I did tend to knock the monitor off when charging around doing house stuff in the daytime.
Just occasionally I must have caught the light activating button and switched the nightlight on in the nursery without wanting to, as it was shining as I went to bed. Freya is a reasonably sound sleeper so it didn’t wake her but other babies may be woken by this mistake.
Who is the TOMY Digital Plus Monitor TD 350 best for?
Any mum wanting a really robust top of the range monitor.
The TOMY Digital Plus Monitor TD 350 is a very well made, compact monitor with plenty of baby- and parent-friendly features. The sound quality is super and the robustness of this product mean it should last the inevitable knocks of life.
