The Tomy Walkabout Premier Advance provides more features than most analogue baby monitor models, giving for those parents looking for a basic monitor a little bit extra.
Over the last 80 years, Tomy has established itself as a trusted quality brand. From baby carriers and monitors, to toys, games and nursery items, there are plenty of reasons why you’ll have seen this brand name around.
The Tomy Walkabout Premier Advance is easy to set up and offers four channels. Both parent and baby units are mains and battery operated but Tomy recommends mains use for signal and quality of sound. Features include low battery warning, adjustable volume, sound activated transmission, talkback, temperature display, night light, and a belt-clip on the parent unit.
What we love
For a basic analogue monitor, this model boasts many of the great features found on more technical digital monitors.
The low battery warning has an audible alarm on the parent unit and a flashing light on the baby unit.
The sound-activated light display means you can also see your baby’s sounds and the listening volume can be adjusted. The sound-activated transmission feature means the parent unit remains in sleep mode until your baby makes a noise to save power.
The talkback function allows you to speak to your baby at the touch of a button on the parent unit.
The room temperature display is transmitted to the parent unit and the night light, which provides a reassuring glow, can be operated from both units. When the baby unit is powered with batteries, the nigh-light will fade after five minutes to save power.
What to watch out for
Despite having excellent features, the sound quality of the monitor and talkback function is fairly fuzzy.
While the monitor offers four channels, it took a few minutes to find the right channel because there’s no display to say which channel each unit is on. Reception was also fairly poor. Also, the talkback function is fairly fuzzy.
This monitor does look a bit plasticky and despite the belt clip, the aerial makes it awkward to carry. Mums online have said they’re disappointed with bad feedback, portability and the longevity of this monitor.
Who is the Tomy Walkabout Premiere Advance best for?
Parents after an analogue monitor that has a bit extra offer.
MadeForMums verdict
The Tomy Walkabout Premiere Advance does a reasonable job with a host of features, including temperature display and a night light that you can control remotely. However, the sound quality lets this analogue baby monitor down.
