Great gadget for warming your baby's milk that will give you an extra few minutes in bed!
Yoomi is an innovative new bottle and warmer in one that warms your baby’s feed to the natural temperature of breast milk in just 60 seconds. It’s rechargeable, BPA free and can be used for both breast- and bottlefeeding.
The yoomi is a handy little gadget that’s the brainchild of parents Farah and Jim Shaikh. In fact, it was Farah who was the inspiration as, like many new mums, she got fed up of stumbling around the kitchen warming milk in the early hours! Farah and Jim came up with the concept for yoomi, got expert advice and then won awards for their designs. In arrived in stores in November 2009.
What we love
I love a gadget. And I hate trudging downstairs to warm a bottle in the middle of the night. So yoomi ticks two boxes already.
All you need to do to get the yoomi warmer ready is pop it in an electric steriliser for 25 minutes or leave it in boiling water for 20 minutes. Once it’s attached to the bottle, just press the orange button, which turns blue when it’s ready in a minute. Then as the feed passes through the teat it warms to 32-34 degrees, which mimics natural breast milk temperature.
The yoomi really works, and because it’s rechargeable you can use it 100 times. We used it out and about and found it easy and secure to transport and it didn’t let us down. Our baby seemed to agree that her milk was exactly the right temperature, too! All the other mums wanted to know what yoomi was and where they could get it. (The answer? John Lewis.)
I also like the fact that it’s a very cute product, and that it comes from a family business. It’s the kind of thing you use and think, “I wish I’d invented that.”
What to watch out for
The bottle provided with the warmer only holds 5oz of milk – and when my baby wakes in the night she won’t let me get back to sleep without guzzling at least 6oz or 7oz! If they made a bigger bottle, it’d be so much better. Fortunately the manufacturers say there’s an 8oz bottle coming soon, along with fast flow teats. So that’s my 3am feed sorted.
If your baby’s fussy about teats, you may have problems with the bottle as it’s wide-necked and not compatible with every. This means it’s an expensive gadget to try if your little one doesn’t take a liking to it.
The other issue is the price – is it worth paying £22 for a lie-in? Actually, you can use the yoomi warmer 100 times so that’s 100 lie-ins. I’m sold!
