Little Steps Baby and Toddler Group
The group meets every Monday throughout the year at Gate 55 (formerlyWestburnPrimary School) inEdinburgh. Activities include arts and crafts, singing and movement sessions and story time – there’s a good selection of toys as well. Suitable for newborns to 5-year-olds, Little Steps offers a warm welcome and a relaxed environment for you and your child to have fun. A healthy snack is provided for the young ones and there is tea and coffee for the grown-ups.

Marchmont Playgroup
This playgroup is open to children aged from 2 to 4. Activities include painting, riding trikes and music-making. The aim is to teach children important skills such as sharing and social interaction. There is also a toddler group that meets every Thursday (term-time only) from 10am-11.30am. A wide variety of toys is available and each session ends with “Songtime”. Entrance is 50p and juice, tea and snacks are also on offer.

City Tots
This group for pre-schoolers meets every Wednesday in the Carrubbers Christian Centre in the heart of the city on the Royal Mile. There’s plenty on offer, including free play, toys, arts and crafts, singing and stories. There is also a separate baby area. This is a relaxed and friendly setting for you and your little one. Snacks and juice are available for the children and there is tea or coffee for the grown-ups. A donation of 50p is welcomed.

Polwath Baby and Toddler Group
Based in Polwath Parish Church hall, this group meets on Tuesday mornings (10am – noon, all year) and Thursday afternoons (2.30pm – 4.30pm, term-time only). There is plenty of space in the large hall for active toddlers, with trampolines, bicycles and dressing-up clothes. There is a dedicated matted section for babies. The cost of the session is £2 per family and includes a snack and drink for the little ones and tea and biscuits for the adults. If the weather is fine the group often meets in the garden and each session finishes with a sing-song. There are also organised trips, such as visits to the zoo and the soft play area at Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre.

St Bride’s Toddlers Group
The group meets each Friday from 9.30am to 11.30am in the St Bride’s Community Centre – a former church that has been converted into a diverse arts and education space. There is a large enclosed soft-play area, plenty of ride-on toys as well as books and toys. There is no charge and refreshments are available from the centre’s cafe.

The Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner Baby and Toddler Group
Set in the residential neighbourhood of Merchiston, the toddler group is housed in its own special hut. It meets three times a week during term time and offers activities such as seasonal crafts, circle time, songs and nature walks. Sessions cost £5-£6 and should be booked in advance. An organic snack is provided for the children. Toddler groups take place on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10.15am – 12.30pm.
