Apple, pear and vanilla puree
5 months+
Apples and pears are easy to digest, so they make great baby food. They’re also unlikely to trigger an allergy, which is why they’re generally the first type of fruit to be introduced into your baby’s diet.
Adding a vanilla pod to the mix gives the fruit a lovely flavour. Alternatively, you can use a small cinnamon stick or a pinch of dried cinnamon.
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 6 minutes
Makes: 4 portions
Suitable for freezing
You’ll need:
2 dessert apples and 2 ripe pears, all peeled, cored and chopped
4tbsp unsweetened apple juice or water
1 vanilla pod
Method:
1 Put the fruit into a heavy-based pan with the juice or water. Split the vanilla pod, scrape the seeds into the pan and add the pod. Cover and cook over a low heat for about 6 minutes.
2 Remove the pod and purée until smooth.
