How to make pancake letters
Step-by-step instructions on how to write messages in pancake mix, draw pictures and make your child's initials
As if Pancake Day wasn't already fun enough, MFM has been trying out some tricks to impress the kids even more this year.
The simplest and most effective way we found was this idea to create shapes and letters by using a squeezy ketchup bottle as a paint pot. Just make sure you wash out all traces of tomato ketchup before you start!
Make your usual pancake mix but thicken it up with a couple of extra spoonfuls of flour to make it easier to write paticular shapes.
Then heat half a tsp of butter on a hot frying pan and, with a very steady hand, squeeze out the mixture into the shape you want. It may take a couple of goes to get this right and if the mixture seems too runny, it's worth adding some extra flour.
Your child's initials are a winning idea, as are (easy) shapes such as hearts. If you're feeling very artistic you could work your way up to something even more exciting... and don't forget to share your pictures with us on Facebook!
