Review:
From the moment my car crunched up the drive, I sensed I was in for a treat – and I wasn’t disappointed! After a warm welcome, I was given a tour of the stunning stately home and spa facilities, which boast everything from an outdoor jacuzzi and thalassotherapy pool, to a state-of-the art gym and tennis courts, all set in acres of beautiful gardens.
I was shown to my room by my gracious guide, where a fluffy robe and complimentary fruit tray awaited me. With elegant décor and the most sumptuous bed I’ve ever tried, I had to fight the urge to lay there all day.
Whilst there are fitness and dance classes suitable for pregnant women and all fitness levels, I opted for a relaxing guided hike in the grounds, where the only sound to be heard was birdsong, before enjoying a dip in the 25m pool.
My 'Beautiful Bump' treatment encompassed a lot more than the name suggests. My therapist started with bathing and massaging my swollen feet, which was so wonderfully stress-relieving I felt like giving her a grateful hug.
Then came a full-body massage, using plain oils for pregnancy safety. Champneys’ therapists are experts in their field, and mine was wonderfully professional and attentive, checking I liked the lotion’s perfume before starting, as the sense of smell is often heightened during pregnancy.
The back massage was conducted sitting up, with legs supported; the well-being of mum-to-be and baby are given paramount importance throughout. My limbs were given a thorough rub, before my therapist gently stroked moisturiser onto my bump, explaining that the baby often moves in response to her touch.
Come evening, the healthy dining options were delicious, and a pianist entertained guests in the genteel drawing room, where a range of non-alcoholic drinks were served.
So much more than a spa, Champney’s Tring offers impeccable service from start to finish. A super-luxurious treat in a unique setting, which every mum and mum-to-be deserves to experience.
