Our fantastic friends at 5 Minute Fun - the website full to the brim with brilliant ideas and activities that take just 5 minutes to do - have created a delicious microwave mug cake sprinkled with stars. Perfect for autumn and winter evenings and a great way for your kids to join in measuring and stirring.

  • 5tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 2tbsp semi-skimmed milk
  • ½tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4tbsp Caster sugar
  • 8tbsp Self raising flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2tsp Sprinkles or hundreds & thousands

    Method

    • step 1

      Help your child to pour the oil into a mixing bowl, then help them to beat in the egg, milk and vanilla extract until well combined. Add the sugar and flour and pinch of salt. Beat until smooth.

    • step 2

      Divide the mixture evenly between two medium-sized cups.

    • step 3

      Into each cup, stir in the sprinkles, or hundreds and thousands, adding a few more to the top to make it colourful.

    • step 4

      Microwave for 2 mins and 15 secs at 800W until it’s finished rising and is cooked through.

    • step 5

      Leave to cool a bit and serve up the mug cake and finish with a few more sprinkles. The perfect winter warmer.
